Littlehampton Green Party is dismayed at the loss of yet
another piece of Historic Littlehampton.
Yet another historic Littlehampton building, Number One Arundel Road, has been
reduced to rubble in the name of progress. Despite the building being at least
150 years old it was not listed due to a technical hitch and therefore
unprotected. As a result it was bought by a developer and swiftly
demolished.
Speaking for the Littlehampton Green Party, Lilias Cheyne said: "So much
for the much heralded policy's of Arun District Council and West Sussex County
Council that were supposed to commit them to preserving the character of
Littlehampton. What I would like to know is who gave planning permission for the
destruction of Number One Arundel Road and the other characterfull historic
buildings, founder members and the very fabric of our town?
Of course it's important to build more affordable homes but this must not be at
the expense of the heart of the town".
