As part of a nationwide action West Sussex Green Party activists will be on the streets of Worthing and Littlehampton in support of the boycott of US oil company's ESSO and Texaco. Prime Minister Tony Blair will be asked to act in support of measures to reverse climate change.

This is the latest in a series of actions by Greens across Europe. These started in April and are in response to the oil companies using their lobbying power to get President Bush to tear up the Kyoto agreement on reducing CO2 emissions, the gas associated with climate change.

Joan Glass of the West Sussex Green Party said: "Nobody can seriously deny that our climate is changing, and that human activity is mainly responsible. This has already caused thousands of deaths, mainly in the poorer countries of the world. Britain has also been affected, as last years floods have shown.

Even in Worthing, the biggest public warning since the Blitz was issued last Christmas eve as the storm of the century threatened to break defenses and flood the town".

Continuing Joan Glass added: "The cost of doing nothing could cost the Earth. Life as we know it might end. The action President Bush took in scraping the climate change treaty was irresponsible. The new Blair government and EU governments must make climate change prevention the principal focus of their economic policies and diplomatic efforts.

Our Prime Minister must use all of his diplomatic influence to persuade the US administration into accepting the Kyoto treaty after all".
