Littlehampton Green Party Newsletter

Hello to you all, I hope that you are all well and ready for the challenges of the future.
Here is a quick list of the current issues .

Zero Waste Caroline Lucas has supported local efforts to stop 1.25 million tons of waste being transported from London every year to Sussex for disposal. The Zero Waste policy also calls for shops and businesses to adopt a Zero Waste policy. In order to ‘manage’ the current levels of waste, it is proposed that an incinerator is built off the Western Road in Lancing. Veolia, the company that have the waste disposal contract from Arun District Council want to have a new land fill site, on top of an aquifer at Rock Common Quarry in Washington and another in Lidsey near Bognor.

Water as you know there has been a drought. There are not policies in the national party to address this; I suggest that we start writing in time for next years’ conference.

Development it is proposed in the local plan that 578,000 new homes are built in this area. This will put an unbearable strain on the already crumbling resources of this area.

Hospital closure as you know Littlehampton hospital was demolished and is supposed to be re-built. It is proposed that St. Richards’ at Chichester and Worthing hospital close. The Royal Sussex in Brighton is in financial difficulties.
