SEPTEMBER 26, 1993 at 12 noon marks the start of 6 Months of campaigning to save Lancing Downs from the Motorway builders.

Concerned groups from across Southern England who are objecting to the Motorway planned from the Channel Tunnel to Devon will be 
unveiling an 8 foot high 30 foot long S.O.L.D - Save Our Lancing Downs - banner across the south-west facing side of Lancing Ring

Being clearly visible from the A27, the air - even a passing spy satellite - it will ensure maximum impact, a superb photo opportunity, together with a fun family day out.

Organised by Worthing Green Party and Earth First because of our  concern so few Sussex people know that the proposals for the A27 will mean great areas of the South Downs behind Lancing and Sompting will be carved out.

The Green Party and Earth First Strongly oppose the building of what is nothing less than a Motorway. Apart from the destruction of an area rich in the tapestry of Nature this Motorwaygedden will carve its way through a residential area rich in its quality of family housing, a Hospital, retirement housing, a Golf course, burial ground and Grade 2 listed building.

The effect on the health of Worthing's residents is taking its toll now with all the worry and stress. If this mad-cap scheme gets the go-ahead, the whole area faces years of chalk dust and mud, endless journeys by whining bleeping dumper lorries, endless traffic jams with rat runs being found through residential areas by frustrated drivers. And why we ask, when right on our door-step we have the South Coast Railway.

Trouble is successive Governments have wantonly starved this route along the coast of cash, this Government, despite all its green talk doses nothing to put into place an integrated transport policy. The Coast-way Railway could be linked to the Channel tunnel with out to much trouble thus providing a route moving freight and people quickly and efficiently from the tunnel along the coast to Southampton or Devon with little pollution or 
road building destruction.

The Green Party's Message is clear, only the determined voice of  the people outraged by this wanton destruction by the road builders can Government policy be reversed.
